Basic Interview Tips
Always ask the interviewer, “How much time do we have?” and, “How can I make our
time together more meaningful to you?”
If the interviewer talks all the time, try to break the pattern. Follow an answer
with your own ques- tion. Give him/her a pitch: show that you are a problem solver.
Don’t leave the interview without securing the next step in the process and always
remain friendly. Smiling goes a long way and is not easily forgotten.
Write a follow-up letter after each interview. Thank the interviewer for the opportunity
to meet with him/her, reiterate interest in the job, bring up points that you may
have forgotten or been unable to express in the interview itself: “One of the things
you mentioned…,” or “I realized I didn’t say enough about…”
The person receiving the interview is not always the most qualified candidate –
the person who interviews best gets the job. Non tangibles weigh heavily on the
final decision.
1. Be enthusiastic.
2. Try to get the job offer, then evaluate the benefits.
3. Don’t decide on the job before it’s been offered.
