career development “quick hits…”

What is the interviewer looking for?

Proof is in your action. The interviewer wants to believe your words, abilities, and accomplishments
but seeks clues confirming your claims. For this reason, your story, your historic account must
include quantifiable elements as well as an inside track gained from your informational interviews.
Just think how many competing for this one position has not gone the extra step and gather data
from people who know the ins and outs of the company and position. Generally speaking, interview-
ers look for confirmation.

If you state you are dedicated to goal completion, certificates of perfect attendance, letters of recom-
mendation from professors, and detailed project examples add value. Additionally, all information
stated in your resume, cover letter, and application must be backed up with an example and proof.

The interviewer seeks the following in a candidate:

Your ability to reflect, organize, and react in a stressful environment. It is common to continue
the interviewee’s lead with follow-up clarification (specifically if there is doubt in the validity of
the response).

Your ability to communicate in a professional setting, including nonverbal cues as well as how
your statements are structured. For example, if are applying to be an account consultant, will
you come across to a potential client as credible, trustworthy, and knowledgeable?

If you share the company philosophy and would represent the company well and with integrity.
