Career Advice - Investment Banking?

We Answered:

You need an MBA and a CPA with high scores as well as related experience as an intern or professional experience. Apply to Deloitte or UBS. Both great firms, even through tough economic times.

Career advice for investment banking?

We Answered:

Go to a top 20 school. That is all you can do to break into investment banking from an MBA. If you don't do a top 20 MBA then it will be very difficult to get your foot in the door, but you could still go to a regional investment bank. Perhaps getting the CFA would also help. Check out Wall St Oasis i-banking forums for better advice than mine, since there are some guys on there who have done undergrad -> military -> grad school -> Wall St, so they may be able to give you more specific advice.

Help! Need Career switch advice ! Switch from IT to banking to Teaching to HR!?

We Answered:

You really need to 1st contemplate what it is you want to do and stick with it. You cannot take a shotgun approach to your career. As a Corporate Recruiter I can say that a person without an HR background can certainly get into HR. You will probably have to start out as a Admin or a Coordinator for an HR department. You may even work for an agency with the hopes of moving into a corp recruiting job (rare). I would recommend going to your university's career center and talking to an advisor to help you figure this one out. If you are not in your college's area, many agency's can help you in determining where your next step should be. Again it all comes down to you making the best decision for yourself and sticking to it. Good Luck!

Investment banking career advice pls...?

We Answered:

Where you do your MBA matters *a lot* you have a much better chance of getting a job in an IB if you have an MBA from a top tier university.

If you haven't already, you should consider getting a loan to cover the cost of the MBA, the pay-off from going to a top-tier unviersity is worth it. Alternatively consider one of the non-american top-tier universities, they may be more affordable.
