Are there any good careers in Banking?

We Answered:

I've bee a teller for 1 1/2 years and it's not all it's cracked up to be. There is so much involved. Especially sales. My job is kept if I refer a product to a person. I need to make 260 referals a year or I lose my job. It's such a headache and I've been looking for another job for about 6 months now. I LOVE my customers and most of the peeps I work with. That's what keps me going.

What are some good careers in the banking industry that dont require a lot of schooling?

We Answered:

I did a workterm at a bank on Bay street and one of the senior directors was actually someone who worked her way up from a bank teller. I think she has been with the bank for over 30 years.

Honestly, most of the people I've talked to at the bank say the stuff they're currently doing was learned through on-the-job experience. If you're willing to stick it out, i'm pretty sure you'll be able to work your way up as well.

what are some good careers in banking?

It's a good thing you said you didn't want to be an accountant, because that was my first recommendation due to the future growth anticipated for this career. Go for a degree in Finance. This will be broad enough for you to easily be hired by a bank. This degree gives you flexibility in what you decide to do: You can help people finance automobiles, real estate, homes etc. or you can help corporations do the underwriting required to go public (very lucrative).
