How do you prevent yourself from being pigeonholed out of a potential job position by a recruiter? We Answered:
I think that what you said (expressing how your previous skills relate to a job you are trying to get into) is just fine. The problem is that this is a terrible economy and employers/recruiters aren't hiring anyone who doesn't meet their specific requirements. In this case, they want someone with bank experience -- not someone with retail experience that could apply to a banking situation. And they'll probably have no trouble finding someone who fits their exact needs because there are a lot of unemployed people. She said that she thought you would be "better suited to working in a retail environment, not a banking environment" because she was trying to tactfully tell you that you aren't what she's looking for. It's not that she's pigeonholing you, it's that she was looking for a way to say that you aren't their ideal candidate. You know that you don't want to work in a retail environment. She either doesn't know that or doesn't care (probably a little of both) but either way, she isn't looking for someone who doesn't have banking experience.
I would keep looking at other banks (other recruiters might not be so picky and might look more at your other qualities and skills). If nothing comes up, though, I would take the best retail job you can find and wait out the economy. When it picks back up again, then apply around to banks again.

Have you worked here? Tell me if so...?We Answered:
My boyfriend worked for a branch off of Citi Group called Pri-merica. I think he got paid by how many clients he had. He had schooling for this job as a financial advisor and he got paid very good, got many awards and the people in the company are like family. He quit because he didn't get along with someone in the buisness but if finance is what your intersted in try looking into Pri-Merica. Good Luck!!!Tammy Said:
