Just remember one thing; everything these sort of people do for charity money wise ,they claim off their tax as a charitable contribution, same with their time, they reckon to make so much for a paid concert, this is then claimed against income taxAlma Said:
Obtaining a Graduate Actuarial Job in the US as a British Citizen? We Answered:
The only advice I can offer is offered as the mother of an actuary who has been working in the field since he graduated from college about a year and a half ago.He majored in Actuarial Science at a well-respected university in the U.S. and worked hard, passing three of the professional exams while still a student and serving as an officer in the actuarial student organization, organizing campus actuarial events. He spent two summers as an intern in different corporations, one an insurance company and the other a consulting firm. He was very happy to be offered a job by the consulting firm and now works in Chicago--works very hard.
I don't know how your education and experience compares to this sort of history. I don't write it to discourage you, but rather to tell you what seems to be a typical experience in this country.
I wonder if working through a professional recruiting firm would be a good tack for you to take. The firm would know about the market for actuaries, that is who was hiring and how to approach them.
Your phrase "It has always been a dream of mine" must certainly tell you what to do. I wish you the greatest success in achieving your dream.

Jimmy Rollins vs. Matt Holliday--Who really deserved MVP??We Answered:
Jimmy Rollins deserved it 150%!!!Stats mean nothing when you are looking at 2 such different parks as coors field and citizens bank park. holliday had those *inflated* stats because his home is the most hitter friendly ball park in the major league.
second - people say RBI should have been the deciding factor, but how do you expect a leadoff hitter to have an outstanding amount?
third - Rollins took care of HARDER offensive things. yes, hitting a homerun takes skill, but triples, and stolen bases need power and a lot of speed. rollins also proved he can hit a homer or 30
fourth - Rollins made that comment, it may have been to bring attention to himself or the team - but hey it worked. at least he had the courage to.
fifth - The phillies had A LOT of trouble this year with injuries and losing key players for months at a time, but rollins played in every game. While howard was out, he kept the team alive, and more importantly - when utley was out [who many thought had a chance to be MVP at the time] he really carried through for the team.
sixth and finally - shortstop is a MUCH more demanding position than left field, and to have .985 fielding percentage?!!! that is absolutely amazing.
so what if holliday had a tiny bit better stats, rollins played in a more more pitcher friendly park. Yes holliday had a remarkable year, but rollins had a year for the ages and you cant let that go unrecognized

Working in the US as a Canadian citizen? We Answered:
Get your degree in hand and go find a job. You can get in year at a time under NAFTA rules.Getting a Green card however requires you to return to Canada to apply. It may be to your advantage to apply for a Green card before entering and wait for approval. That could be years coming. Alternatively it can be best to live and work under NAFTA for as long as NAFTA is in effect.

My dad is close to senior citizen age and gets depressed because we're not making much money..how can I hlp?We Answered:
Your story is another opportunity to say....learn to save your money, pay cash and say "no" to the kids when they want everything (to all kids). Children should be considerate enough to help their parents out...when they are old enough...get a job and pay for some things you want to have.I make less than $20,000 per year (closer to $17,000 and this is gross pay, not net) and I still manage to save money. How do I do it? lots of years being a good money manager...that's...dont live beyond your means, pay cash and pay things off as soon as you can, save money--even if it seems like a small amount, choose the thing you REALLY want to have and then save the money , buy it and pay cash. Other words, dont dribble your money away on everything.
One thing I can personally say...you say you are self employed? Work for a company and try to find one that has a few benefits...I dont know how anyone would pay for health insurance if not thru a company. You might also want to find a job that pays some benefits....also try to work for a company that has a savings plan...that free money (matching funds).
Just some ideas.
