To become a true accountant the first step is to get a degree and get her CPA. Generally the government requires banks as federally insured agencies to use only ceritifed people. I would suggest applying for a job as a teller while she goes to school. That way she builds a reputation with the bank and when she is certified she'll have real references that will give her a "foot in the door" when she is applying for a job.

My brother works for Wells Fargo, my nephew works for Wells Fargo and I have several friends who are accountants.
