First Bank Career

Tracy Said:

does your first job affect the rest of your career?

We Answered:

Your first job, kind of like your high school record and first long term relationship, will fade in significance as you grow older. They seem like hugely important and permanent situations when you're in them, but get forgotten as new experiences take their places.

The days of finding a job after college and then staying with the same firm for the rest of your career are pretty much over, the average American changes jobs many times, and a lot of us switch careers several times (I'm in my fourth or fifth industry, depending on who's counting). Your first job will only affect your career if you want it to. You can always make reference to it if it is applicable to whatever position you're applying to, and it's very important to leave any job under the best circumstances possible. References are vital, especially when you're just starting out, and it doesn't really matter if they're from companies or even industries that are different than the ones you're applying to. Employers want to see that you play well with others and can be an effective team member. It's one of the reasons I like Linkedin http://www.linkedin.com because I have what amounts to a resume on my page that employers can see in a format that isn't as rigid and also has many recommendations from former bosses and colleagues.

The Marketing Assistant job should be viewed as a positive by yourself and prospective employers because it demonstrates traits that all are looking for, such as ability to function as a team member, manage budgets, work in a demanding field, and handle pressure. You can tailor traits and responsibilities from any job to suit the one you're applying for without lying. You want to put the skills you've gained that will be most desirable to a hiring manager for a particular company or industry. Your first job has skills that are a lot more transferrable to other careers than the ones a lot of us started with, such as fast food worker or laborer, so I don't think you should worry about it because it absolutely won't hurt your chances of finding employment in the Financial Industry, and will probably even help in that regard because it shows an ability to adapt and to bring skills to a job that other applicants may not possess. My resume has things on it that seem unrelated, but employers have an appreciation for someone with experience in fields other than theirs as it shows a keen mind and willingness to learn. Keep your ears open for opportunity and always look for chances to network because you never know where people will be in the future. I work in Chicago and I'm amazed at how often I see people I've worked with at various functions, so stay in touch with as many colleagues as possible.

Franklin Said:

Why for the first time in his career does McCain see the need for banking regulation ?

We Answered:

Mccain is running for president and he does not have a clue about the economy. He has said so before. He will say what he thinks people want to hear in order to gain votes. His leadership on economic issues is so great that he convinced many House Replucians to vote for the bailout, WRONG. Mccain is just a maverick without a cause.
