Firstly your questions do not match your true feeling and thoughts. Extremism and fundamentalism DO NOT JUST exist in the muslim/Islamic world they exist EVERYWHERE and in every faith, sect and belief. Sectarian violence in the middle east is ONLY due to western intrusion. they busy the poor people in wars, crimes, bloodshed and poverty, and in the western world they create a huge fuss amongst people with jargon like extremism and fundamentalism. Your last paragraph just openly explains you do not live in the 21st century. You have no idea on what Islam is all about. Giving of dowry is a seriosuly old and in soem places extinct practice. This is severe distortion of the basic concepts of marriage in islam. You are going on about cultural practices, but geberalising it onto Islam - another cause for alientaing muslims.
