The way you have described yourself, you seem a really nice guy. Unfortunately if you want to stop feeling lonely then you need to get out into the world and enjoy life. It most certainly won't come to you. Have you thought about joining a club. You have mentioned about joining a gym. It should not be about paying for a gym for glamourous women, but about going to enjoy exercise, meet men or women and become friends. You then become friend with their friends and this is how you join the circle to socialise. You could perhaps join an evening class. You enjoy a drink so perhaps wine tasting course or evening classes which has something to do with DJ, rather then do it on the computer. Why not join a dating website. They are not all sleazy. I met my husband on a dating website, talked online for 6 months, met and became really close friends for 4 months before it becoming more serious. That was 10 years ago and we are now married with 3 children.

Go to a pub on a weekend during the day, if you feel you could not go on your own in the evening.

Your guess is as good as mine. Why are there so few woman in high level math and science professions? Why are there so few white males in athletic positions at the top levels of pro basketball and football? Why are there almost no women truck drivers?

Removing discrimination out the picture, and assuming your observations are reflective of actual statistics, there are many things that may lead to this

1. Stigma from peers
2. Perception that discrimination will be a challenge
3. Lack of interest within their community
4. Lack of role models within the industry
5. Lack of support from family for that line of work
6. Distrust of the banking system on a whole
7. Challenges and barriers to education usually neccessary to move in to higher level banking jobs

These can be applied to wherever their is a perceived barrier on one demographic of person.

However, I think it must be stated that Bank Of America won the National Black MBA Associations Company of the Year award in 2006, and has been heralded for their proactive stance towards giving minorities a chance to succeed.

I personally, have also seen a number of blacks in the banking industry. In fact, a bank I dropped deposits for in a past job had a black male manager.

Focus on how you supported customers, what kind of training you received, how you applied your education to completing your tasks, or how you used processes to improve the job, eliminate variables, etc.

Hi, I know where you are...here's an idea my friend used. Call a few TEMP agencies because with the job market so tight right now, companies are using temps then hiring them full time!!! You could also try the state of GA labor force work page and submit a resume there...as well.
