Not all call centers are equal. Whether a work environment is supportive of employees are highly dependent on the managers personalty and style as well as the company culture.

Call center environment can also be very stressful and demanding. Yet depending on the nature of business, some call centers are more fulfilling than others.

If your company is giving you such option to move around within the organization, then there is no harm in trying.

You certainly have few options. You can become a manager, a team leader or an operation manager in the call centre. And as you mentioned if you don't want to work for a call centre forever then if you sell financial product then you can pursue a sales/marketing career. I don't think its a dead end.
