Debbie Said:

Should I go to Fordham University or the University of Florida?

We Answered:

First I'll start by saying this, while UF might have a higher ranking in the U.S. News college rankings the education you would receive at Fordham would be far more valuable. All my friends at state schools describe their classes as very lax. Attendance is not important, classes are huge and therefore participation not important. UF has a higher ranking than Fordham based solely on the fact that it is a state school that receives funding from the state and therefore can apply this funding towards top of the line buildings and equipment. Fordham on the other hand is a private school and therefore does not have the benefit of state funding. What Fordham does benefit from is its location. The city attracts great minds and therefore Fordham has some top of the line professors in smaller class which leads to more focus on individual students, something UF lacks. Fordham will provide you with diverse peers from all over the country from California, to Houston and of course the love-able New Jersey. I don't know what you plan on majoring in but I can tell you this if you chose to go the Fordham it is likely to change. The Fordham core will immerse you in all different classes during your first semesters, while at UF you will start with your major off-the-bat giving you less time to discover what you truly love. What your predicament boils down to is this: Do you want the quintessential top-of-the-line college social life or the quintessential top-of-the-line college education? I do not mean to bash the UF academics they are commendable but the essence of education is how you are taught and challenged during your education and I 100% assure you Fordham is superior to UF in this department. UF will provide the more traditional party/social life but I'll tell you this, New York City ain't too boring either. One last note if you do chose Fordham, switch to the Rose Hill campus it is like princeton in the Bronx, gorgeous gothic buildings. Also my suggestion for you would be to try Fordham first for a year. Being from Florida i'm sure you could always transfer back to UF easily if you absolutely hated Fordham, the big city is calling your name it would be a shame if you didn't heed to its beckoning.

Florida Panthers questions?

We Answered:

1. Booth is done. May never be 100 percent ever again. Concussions ruin hockey players... both Lindros', Stevens, Neely, the list is endless.
2. Weiss is a quality player if given the right linemates could blossom into a frontline center with the way he played last year.
3. I think Horton would've rescinded his comments if he wanted to stay but Dale Tallon is a great GM and a great man and if anyone could convince him greater things are on the horizon in Florida it is him.
4. Vokoun will be dealt for a low first round/high second round pick or a few prospects. He's a superb goalie and teams will overpay. He has no future in Miami.
5. You keep your captain and leave the other two open in trade talks.
6. After so many questions you end it with one that is impossible to answer. Florida is clearly rebuilding but if it is any consolation look at the work Tallon did in building the Chicago squad and hope that after 3 more years of losing (if the market can handle it) the Panthers will emerge as a dynamic young team led by some quality pieces already in place.

I need a new career! Please give suggestions...?

We Answered:

You've expressed an affinity towards languages, is it possible for you teach them to adult classes or at a community college? I have no idea how much that would pay.
Alternatively, you could take up a Masters in Education at university and become a primary/secondary teacher of languages. It may delay employment for a couple of years, but imagine the years that will follow doing what you love. If that is, indeed, what you love.
