freaked out goats?We Answered:
Some are simply just not a people goat. You have to take a lot of time to get them to come up to you if they are runners like that. Having the friendly guy in there does help. Here are a few things you can do:
Sit out there, just be there and chill, he may get curious and want to sniff you
Get their favorite treats and he should come up to you to get some (be sure to squat or stay low so that he is less threatened)
Catch him, put him on a leash and pet him all over for like 20-30 minutes. Do it everyday. Eventually he should think, hey this ain't so bad.
Some goats will not get friendly, they just are not good with people. He may get better, but may not that much.
He may just bond with you as well if you are the only one doing this stuff.
If he is new to the place, it will take him time to relax, should that be the case.
If he has been abused, doing the above will help as well. Speak softly and pet gently. He could react this way to any new people.
I have many 'freaked out' goats. It takes time and patience. Some of mine came around in a few weeks and others have taken over a year, one still is fruity about people. Hope this helps! Good luck!
