I would get a degree in education or healthcare because there is a wide range of jobs you can do with a degree like that. You could join the Peace Corps :)

Career Counseling needed. Help!?

We Answered:

You can try and get a foothold in the media- both visual and print or the radio, depending upon your skills. If your oratorical skills are good , try the radio or the television . If you have good writing and reading skills , try the newspapers and magazines. You can try your luck in the publishing industry also. Apply to the section of the industry that is specific to your skills.

You can do a degree in journalism and mass communication. The editor's chair is the most coveted one in a journalist's world. Now with the expansion of the print and the internet media, you have a wide range of options available to you. You can start off as a journalist and go up the ladder or you can take the technical route by studying software like quark express.
Or you can specialize in any area of interest. You can just keep on writing letters to the editor and participate in any activities undertaken by those magazines and newspapers. You can try writing in them for free and as you you grow, you will be in demand.
For example , if you specialize in travel , you can try your luck in a travel magazine. Now there are more than two magazines for almost each and every topic on earth like astrology, devotion , automobiles , fashion, cuisine, lifestyle, political criticism, satire, sport, movies, electronics, computer science, all branches of engineering, sociology and commerce etc. The list is endless. Almost all the magazines enjoy a wide readership also.
The internet is one powerful tool to get yourself noticed by people who matter. If you can locate a blog-spot or a website that caters to your topic of interest, you can post your write-ups regularly in those pages. Someone will take note of you some time. At the same time read a lot regarding your subject. Take notes. Get into discussions regularly. You can also mention this point in your CV

I do not know where you are from , but in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India , where I live , many radio and television channels , both private and Government-owned, are looking for people who can clearly read and pronounce Tamil, our mother tongue and a language spoken by around sixty million people! Such is the scarcity for people who can read and write a language clearly.
Start with the smaller organisations and then you can expand to the larger ones.

S.Suresh,
Trichy

Graduating with my bachelor's this spring - not sure where to go for school after this?

We Answered:

Never heard of an MBA with an health care emphasis, but if this is a direction which you are considering then have you thought instead to obtain a Ph.D. or Psy.D to become a psychologist. That gives you plenty of options in all kinds of different fields including health, business and law.

A master's in health care is far too specific and really narrows down your career paths and options. I would say the same with an MBA, if you decide to then don't pick an emphasis which is restrictive such as human resource, but instead one which is broad or which has growth or demand for example management or finance.

I Can't Care Anymore?

We Answered:

College is not for everybody. You should probably find a job that doesn't require tertiary education, and if possible, start an apprenticeship in some honorable trade.

Whats the best way to prepare college students for life after college?

We Answered:

I think you have two pretty good ideas. However, with the first idea, about having peer career advisors, there is a downfall to this. Many students would forgo the option of meeting with a peer advisor if an actual expert in this field was/is still available. Students like to go to someone with more experience and expertise whenever possible.

I like the second option you described the best because it would allow students to network with each other, staff or faculty of the college, and potential employers to get ideas about the types of job/career one could obtain with a specific major/degree.

I would focus my paper around your second idea and then I would also add in about the importance of field experience and internship options for students while they are still in school so that they can gain that much needed experience and get a "test drive" of what kind of jobs/duties they maybe responsible for once they graduate.
