How should I advise my daughter, a chef-in-training?

We Answered:

Honestly, I do not think it would be a problem for her to just taste the wine but not swallow it. I will admit that I drink, but in moderation. And I understand you concern for your daughter's introduction to fine wines and spirits. But I doubt it would be enough to get her intoxicated, or have her on the verge of attending any AA meetings. She's going to be introduced to it through cooking so most of the alcohol included within the mixtures and ingredients will be evaporated into the food before anyone can taste it. She just needs to know what it looks like or tastes like in order to chose the correct wines to prepare her meals to perfection. Don't worry, she'll be alright. I think you've raised her with enough morals and values that she'll be able to say "Get the behind me Devil" and move on. Be careful if she makes deviled eggs though, those go straight to your thighs!!

Has anyone heard of the "virtual learning center"?

We Answered:

Be VERY CAREFUL.

You can start a virtual learning center - with a POBOX.

Your best bet is to find out who you would be working for (after the degree program) or who would hire you and ask them if they accept that virtual program.

Who they accept is where to put your money.

What is the career scope of learning SAP[HR] Functional?

We Answered:

I know that several larger blue chip type of corporations use SAP including oil companies in northern canada. However, beyond that, I don't see the scope very big. You could get by just nicely without it.

How valuable is distance MBA for a fresh graduate with no experience?

We Answered:

Distance MBA as a fresh graduate will hardly be very effective because professional studies cannot groom your personality which a class room program can do and MBA is a course that requires charming personality...it may be fruitful while working somewhere.
For distance learning center offering MBA, Symboisis (Pune), IGNOU may be considered.

Tiffany Said:

Is distance learning a good idea or a bad idea???

We Answered:

I do an Open University degree which is studied from home.

Positives:
I dont have to cut hours at work to attend college/uni
I can do it in my own time to fit around commitments
No social/peer pressure from other students
I can go at my own pace and reread things and look things up without it disrupting a 'class'
Good online facilities so you dont feel alone!

Negatives:
-Difficult to get in touch with tutors sometimes.
-Doesnt always feel 'personalised' when you do chat to tutors
-you have to be organised and strict with yourself

But overall I am enjoying it and know I wouldnt be doing a degree if it was for OU!

I want to learn clay molding and make it out as a career or business. Where can I learn this in Taiwan?

We Answered:

It can be costly as you need a lot of specialized materials and equipment. Look at local colleges or art schools and take some classes first to see if it is something you are good at. You can talk to local artists or instructors to help you get started.

Colleges in California that offer some sort of degree for Career Counseling?

We Answered:

I think that most of the UC campuses still do, unless they have closed them on account of budget cuts. You can always hire a licensed career counselor for $100 an hour for one or two sessions, so don't let this be a deciding factor. If you think you need a learning center, check with the colleges which interest you. I would be hesitant to apply to UC if I thought I needed a learning center unless I came from a sub-standard high school.
