Sociology is your best avenue. Some universities offer specific courses in LGBT issues; I took a course in Lesbian and Gay Studies in university (Acadia U, Nova Scotia Canada). You could go on to a degree in social work or counselling (Education). Find a liberal arts university and talk to the registrar or the dean of Sociology. Best of luck!
