Graduate programs in Psych?

We Answered:

http://www.graduateshotline.com/psy.html Here's the list of the top graduate programs in the US. You can find all accredited psych programs listed on apa.org You also have to make a decision on what type of psychologist you wish to become...there are many. Depending on that , then find the program. You need to take the GREs...get recommendations, and hopefully present some research you did with a prof. Psych grad programs are currently very competitive due to the huge number of psych undergrads (#1 undergrad major in US right now). You apply for a Ph.D. when you apply for grad programs, you get the master's along the way. Ph.D. candidates are viewed as being more serious, more dedicated. Programs will usually only accept the number of people they can support...so slots are limited. Some programs will only accept 10 or 12 people a year, within the sub-program in psych at the school. Good luck to you....spend some time reading info at apa.org (psychology professor)

Harvard Extension vs Institute?

We Answered:

I'd go for the WPI degree. You get partial use of the services you mention, not full access, and the degree is not considered the equivalent of a Harvard degree. There is a reason why what is often considered the best university in the world is offering a degree which is a lot cheaper than WPI.

Again, there will be some employers who may not see the "extension" and assume you are a Harvard grad, and if that should happen, it would benefit you. However, it sounds like you might be going for a technical degree, and in that case, skills matter far more than does the prestige of the school.

The only concern I would have about WPI would be the fact that you say there is almost no opportunity for work experience. Again, if this is a technical degree, you may very well be working on projects for real clients, which would be the equivalent of work experience, since you could put this on your resume.
