Most schools use an unweighted GPA so that the grades that you obtain in either an IB or AP class will have little affect. Colleges do consider, however, and like to see both AP and IB classes.

I feel that you are better prepared to take the AP exam through an AP class./

I have a math degree from a university on par with NYU. It's not worth the money, at least while you're in your 20's. Go to a community college for two years and transfer. Your grades will be higher, you will be happier, and it will cost less. I wish I did the same. This is especially true if you want to major in film or some other humanities. I personally had a hard time finding a job with a math degree... I can't imagine what's it like with an English degree.
