In NY, it's not just "how to fill out an application", it's an introduction to hundreds of thousands of dollars in technical and career skill training that you are entitled to receive for free. Additionally, the "counselors" they have there will evaluate your resume and asist you in writing a stronger resume - something that would cost you hundreds of dollars to do elsewhere.

as a professional software engineer, I can honestly say that I see true value in attending introductory computer classes as they keep me up to date in desktop publishing and reintroduce me to methodologies and features that I have forgotten about.

although i would not recommend relying on them to find you a job, you should rely on them to provide you with other career services, etc. while relying on sites such as careerbuilder, monster, hotjobs, theladders, nyhightech, etc to find your next job.

honestly, it sounds like you're allowing ego to cloud your decision making process on this. if that is the case, it would be a terrible mistake. like it or not, you will always have plenty of room to grow both personally and professionally and what you're being exposed to is opportunity to expand on your horizons.

What kind of proof are you looking for? Usually when you have an appeal the proof that you need to win your case is actual documents and people that you yourself bring. If you have already been to one appeal and are appealing again your local career center wouldn't have that paperwork but the mediator who worked your case and she may travel to different offices so her office prolli isn't even located there. If you can locate the phone number to the mediator who worked your case she/he may be better use to you or contact the toll free number that you call to claim your weeks (if that is the way it is done in your state).

And please don't believe that hearing officers are more on your side than the companies. They are an impartial party who listen to both sides of the story and determine who has the best evidence to support their case and decide who is correct. They are not their to take sides, just to hear the facts laid before them.

well, i know this sounds bad...but yuo don't have to tell them you don't have any intent on looking. i'm 7 months pregnant, and i'm 'looking' for a job that less strenuous (i work in unloading trailers at target) and applied for it last week. (i had a dr note though). they won't deny you benefits if you act like you're looking even at 37 weeks pregnant. (in tx that i know of)

If it were me, I would postpone the wedding until he becomes permanently employed. It is ok to be registered with a career center, but he should be pounding the pavement looking for some sort of job.

Trust me - I was married to someone for 23 years who was not employed steadily. It was not fun. He always expected a job to just land in his lap and when it didn't, I had to always take up the slack. Then when he was employed, there was always something wrong with the boss, or his coworkers, or who knows what. In 23 years, he never worked at a job longer than 3 years, most jobs less than a year. Some would say that marriage is a partnership and I should have done it willingly. Well, I did in the beginning, But it got really old, really fast.

Well, you can apply for unemployment if you have worked for six months, but you MAY NOT be eligible if your fired. States have different standards and many of them may still give you unemployment. Answer these question: Did you recieve any counsiling about your absenses? Do they have an absentee policy? Did you notify your employer when you where out? Where you out due to medical reason concerning you or your imediate family? If you where not warned or where out due to medical reason, you MAY be able to collect.

Hey, its worth a try! Other than that, go to a temp agency and try out a few things to see what you like. If you find something you like you may show up to work everyday. A good rule of thumb is not to take ANY days off in the first six months.
