Actuary Career Change
Chester Said:
can i become an actuary? We Answered:
You would probably need to go back to school, but it wouldn't take too long considering your current math background.Dianne Said:
I was a math major because I wanted to be an actuary. I gave up and switched to accounting. Now Im bored.?We Answered:
If you want to be an actuary you need to be a math major with an emphasis is statistics. Actuaries actually have to pass tests for level proficiency so a degree in accounting won't do much.Sorry, either continue on your path and be a CPA or switch back to math and start studying this time.

I have a BS in Math. How can I become an actuary? We Answered:
You need to pass the exams as well as get vee credits and a few other qualifications. Go to http://www.soa.org/education/exam-req/ to see a really good layout of what you need to do. The first step is to become an Associate.Exams: Each exam is like a graduate level course where you have no instructor and no class (so basically you have to learn it all yourself). Your grade is based on one exam which about 60% fail. In my opinion, the exams are brutal and not for the faint-hearted!
VEE Credits: You can either take courses that fill the requirements at a university or online with providers such as neas or actex. You may already have some of these credits such as economics.

Actuary FM exam--Chances of passing the test?We Answered:
It depends on how much he studied. It's suggested that a person study the course specific materials for 100 hours for each hour of test to be taken, for each of the Actuary tests. If he didn't study enough, then perhaps he should put more hours into the coursework and attempt the test again.Just about every professional Actuary has failed at least one of the tests at least once. One failure is not an issue, but if he fails several more times, then perhaps it is time to consider a new career.

Career choice: accounting or any other field? We Answered:
Accounting is a good career choice, but the job market is bad for everyone so changing professions won't help.Rebecca Said:
