Adult Career Change

Marc Said:

Im an adult with no career goals, no drive, no passion...how do I change my mindset?

We Answered:

You first need to change your thinking and beliefs. You seem to have a lot self-doubt and you are ultimately limiting yourself. You feel that you are "at the end of your line" because you don't have the right career? This is a very self-defeating statement. Change your mindset first. You are capable of succeeding in your desired career. You are depressing yourself. Go after your dream. Don't let a class or subject stop you! You really think successful people had the perfect road to greatness, No! They had to claw, fight, and even fail to get where they are. If someone offered you a million dollars to pass a science class, could you do it? Probably so. So have the same mindset in everything you do! Only the strong survive and you are shooting your own self in the foot. It's time for you to woman up and go after what you want. If you don't, somebody is always waiting in line....

hoped that helped! lol

Vera Said:

How can I change my career to work with adults with learning difficulties - I currently work in an office.?

We Answered:

Why not go down the route of volunteering first? This way it will give you a chance to se if it is for you. Try looking up volunteering opportunities in your area or organisations that work with adults with learning difficulties. You'll have to have a CRB(criminal record check) before you can work/volunteer with any organisation. The normal turn around is about 2weeks.
Go for it though, the pros far outweigh the cons.

Update for Political Correctness-
The law might be different in the USA to Britain. You have to get a CRB if you intend to work with young people and/or vulnerable adults.

Is "SallieMae" just for kids heading to college? Can older adults looking for a career change get a loan?

We Answered:

Absolutely.

The federal government makes no distinction of how old an individual is to be able to get loan money for an education. They do factor how much money you may have already been given for a past degree.

Remember: Sallie Mae isn't the only lender out there though. To keep loans competitive and service at its best the Dept. of Education licenses many different lenders to help you with your education.

(A little disclosure I am partial as I work for a competing lender: Student Aid Lending)

James Said:

been nursing all of my adult life. Now i want a change of career. What other avenues are there?

We Answered:

How far away do you want to go? You're trained to calm people in stressful situations and teach them how to take better care of themselves.

Insurance companies and even some large employers hire nurses to review records or follow-up with sufferers of chronic conditions who tend to be non-compliant. They've found it can be cost-effective to have nurses contact Diabetes, HBP, etc patients to answer questions and encourage better self-care and monitoring.

Pharmaceutical sales people are in high demand and make money. Lawyers sometimes hire nurses to advise them on medical-related aspects of cases and to read and analyze technical reports.

Case manager for a oncology practice--making sure that the patient and family get all possible help while relieving the stress on them.
