Career Change 50 Years Old

Vicki Said:

Scoliosis caused career change

We Answered:

i had rods implanted when I was 15. Im 39 now. I have had off and on episodes of major back pain over the years. About 3 years ago I took up taekwando and it has been THE BEST thing for my back. I think its the kicking drills and flexability that really has finally conditioned my lower back muscels and given me a better understanding of the way my body moves. Ive not had a major episode since. My thought is, that maybe you should not give up hope that you may be able to feel better even when standing. See a different doc, do what you can to feel better.

Would like some insight and help with going back to school and career change?

We Answered:

Absolutely not. In fact you may be able to use some of your IT skills in your social work career. With your MSW you will make a bit more than you are making now without a degree (the more aid you can get toward your degree the better off financially you will be with this decision.

Is 41 (nearly 42) too old to consider training to be an architect?

We Answered:

You would need to think about when you would like to retire, if you are happy to work through your 50's and into your 60's + then I'd say go for it, it's never too late.
This is just my personal opinion, but I would have thought that your age (read life experience) can only be seen as a good thing, if you're healthy.

Billy Said:

which careers are well rewarding in terms of pay?

We Answered:

have you thought about insurance companies? using your expertise to assess damages/claims etc - I'm sure you could tie that in with your engineering skills.
From there, depending on how entrepreruial you are could also develop properties, maybe set up a business/ partnership....
personally I think you should use what you have in a different way, rather than start afresh on a new tack.

investigate and don't rush - contact agencies who specialise in head hunting professionals at top level (search on internet - I've seen them in the FT job section) and ask for advice as to a next move - or join up and see what they can find you!

I like your attitude - go for it and I hope it goes well for you!
