Career Change Aptitude Test

Laurie Said:

I've been thinking about changing my major. Where can I find some career aptitude tests to figure out what to?

We Answered:

You need to consider why you want to be a doctor. Is it because you want wealth? If so, don't bother. The strenuous years of education will take a toll on you and you won't do well if you're not interested in the sciences. Your major doesn't even matter for med school, you need these courses:

* General biology
* Physics with lab
* General chemistry (inorganic chemistry) with lab
* Organic chemistry with lab
* Calculus
* English

You'll really need a GPA of at least 3.5 in undergraduate.

In search of a career change. What do I do? Where do I look?

We Answered:

The best thing ever created for your situation is Monster.com. They have everything. You can take assesment test, create resumes, learn skills. It has been so helpful to me. It is easy to use and best of all, it's free!!

The other website I found useful is Jobdango.com.

I also went to a couple of job placement companies. This was helpful, because they tested me to see what skills I currently have. They placed me with jobs that I was compatible with based on my experience and skills. A lot of them now place full time employees and also offer great benefits!! This gives you the opportunity to try a few different options without making a commitment.
Also Free.

Careerbuilder.com is another one I heard was great for career planning.

Scott Said:

Aptitude tests have confused me but I need a change. Read details before answering, please.?

We Answered:

I'm a bit confused myself...are you wondering about forestry or teaching? Either way, it's never too late for a career change but you're going to have to research the field you choose before you enter it. For example, if you live in a "concrete jungle" then obviously you wont have a lot of luck breaking into forestry. If you want to be a teacher, get a degree in teaching, then check around to see where teachers are in demand. If you're still aiming for forestry, get into an educational program for that and move where the forests are. You don't strike me as the type that is averse or afraid of change, so jump into it. Heck, you could major in education and minor in something forestry-related and become a forestry teacher. The possibilities are endless.

Also, don't limit yourself. Aptitude tests aren't the end-all, be-all of your career choices. Go for something that you think will be fulfilling.

Arlene Said:

Is there an aptitude test to determine if becoming a 911 operator is for me?

We Answered:

There are classes you could take and books you could study. But nothing will prepare you for actually doing the job. When you get hired at an agency they will provide all of the training you will need. So don't waste your own money but going to classes prior to applying and going through the hiring process.

While the only official job requirements are usually a high school education, valid drivers license, and clean criminal history. There is alot more employers will be looking for that are not easily "test-able" like common sense.

When applying you will also most likely have to take a written test, typing test, hearing test, polygraph, extensive background investigation and drug testing.

The job is very stressful with odd hours and you will be working weekends and holidays. I highly suggest you do a sit-a-long with one of the agencies you are interested in working for. This will give you an idea if it is something you CAN and WANT to do.

Also, I wouldn't say this profession is all portable. There are different levels of training that each agency uses. Thee are also dozens of different CAD systems, radio systems and phone syastems that 911 centers use. While experience will help with some aspects of finding a new job, it can still be hard to go from agency to agency

Carolyn Said:

Is it worth it to take a vocational aptitude/personality test to assess what careers would be good for you?

We Answered:

The greek aphorism "know thyself" is key here. Do you know yourself well. Are you aware of all you talents and potential. Taking the test might help you discover something about yourself that you do not recognize yet or it may affirm what you already know. In either case it is probably a small investment in time and money so it certainly cannot hurt. Best of luck.
