Career Change Decision

Jessica Said:

how d u see a "change career" decision?

We Answered:

Well before you make a decision this big you should spend a lot of time weighing the pros and cons. And keep in mind you shouldn't change your career based on the answers you see here ... but learning languages does require a unique way of thinking... just maybe not the kind you are used to. If you don't think it will make you happy, don't change careers.

Cheryl Said:

Did having kids change your career decision? What is your career? Do you have kids if so how many?

We Answered:

My husband and I wanted to wait until we were both established in our careers to have kids. I had just turned 30 (I was a nurse) and he was nearly 33 when we had our first. He is a doctor and was very busy, but at that point it was sort of a lull so he was able to stay home a lot with the baby. After my mat leave ended, I went back to work (I absolutely loved my job) and our daugther stayed with my sister's kids and their nanny. I really wanted another child but I also loved my job and wanted to keep working. We ended up having our second daughter two years later and I ended up quitting to stay home with the girls. Shortly after that we were surprised to have our third child, and after that we've since had two more kids. Our eldest is now 8 years old and the youngest is 5 months. My husband still works - his hours have been really crazy for the last year or so, but hopefully it will settle down soon. I hope to go back to work when our youngest is in full-day school.

Anita Said:

do you support my decision to change my career to IT and ERP in manufacturing insteade of Production Engineer?

We Answered:

It is hard to say you are making a wise decision until you set all the cards on the table.
There are two considerations to make for career change.
1) Does the career change require a change in which you will need to build a completely different set of skills? If it does, do you have the financing?
2) Does the career change require immediate skill transfer- in which case you do not have to go back to school? If that is the case, this may be the way to go.
Difficulty in finding work may not be a reason to change. The reasons you are not succeeding may be.
I suggest you look into these two considerations by doing investigation through informational interviews and assessments of your skill levels.
Good luck

I need help with a big decision--career change. Please help!! I'd love input!!?

We Answered:

Both if you can. Look, you really should stick it out and get the MS. It is a life long, solid cushion. After that, pursue your dreams!! You are still very young and have the world at your feet. There is no reason why you should drop this now. You are not locking your life in, you are broading your options. Personally, my initial thought was that the universe is setting you up for something great. Music Therapy is an outstanding resource for Special Ed. How fantastic will it be for you to offer that to kids and give parents the reasurance that you have your credentials to teach their special needs children!!

Byron Said:

Who has say in husband's career change?

We Answered:

She should get some input, but she should also remember, he's the one doing the work.

if he'll be happier at his new job, she should support him on it.

Max Said:

career change decisions?

We Answered:

not certain what work you are involved in but as a multi-tasker, I involved my self in businesses included in my line vertically or horizontally and not only did I learn more but started doing piece work for other companies and more than doubled my earning capability and drew closer the companies within my circle.
