Career Change Dogs

Pamela Said:

I want a career change, how do I get a job working with dogs?

We Answered:

Google it

Luis Said:

The men/women who work with the K9 dogs at the airport - who do they work for?

We Answered:

Dogs you see at the airport may be drug-sniffing dogs. They may be explosives-sniffing dogs. They may not have been trained for either specialty, but if somebody's pants get wet when the dog comes around that'll take care of it,too.

I know that at my main airport the local police use dogs. I also know that some places (perhaps including that airport, I don't know) Customs uses dogs. TSA may not use drug-sniffing dogs, but that does't mean they don't use dogs at all.

Mark Said:

I want to work with puppy dogs, but I don't want to be a vet or groomer; anything else I can do as a career?

We Answered:

Dog trainer, open a boarding kennel, dog walker, pet sitter, position at an animal shelter, vet tech, etc. There are a lot of choices out there, depending on your specific area of interest and skill-set, and whether you are willing to go back to school or not.

Leslie Said:

dog trainer as a career change?

We Answered:

Unless you have training experience... this is probably a bad idea. I have been training obedience dogs with the help of professionals since I was 11 and I am still learning!!! It is a lot harder than it looks and it isn't something to do just "because you like dogs". Find a trainer near you and see if you can sit in on some classes or if they can show you some tricks of the trade. You probably won't make much, but if you work hard you could live comfortably.

Rebecca Said:

If you could change your career from what it is now what would you like to be doing?

We Answered:

Well I'm an USAF 4 year vet currently working at a radar site and bored whenever there's no test mission to support, hence the time killing on yahoo answers.

i'd like to race motorcycles and in the off season manage my motorcycle dealership. that would be a dream come true.

In need of a career change...my true love is with DOGS!?

We Answered:

Dog walker or pet sitter. Our dog walker charged $12 a walk and used him every time we went on vacation or away from home. If just for the day we used him. Our dogs require at least 3 walks a day, so that's $36 a day. And when we were out of town, it added up. But we liked it b/c it was a more personal service than a kennel. We found him from an add at our apartment complex. And being a single mom, you can set your own hours and such. Good Luck!
