My husband went from Business Admin to IT in his late 20s. Not going to make tons of money, if that's why you're thinking of doing it. Will have to put in your dues for a few years at the help desk and then hope you make connections to get out.

Go for network admin and make sure you get an IS degree from a reputable school. Don't try to bluff your way into a position but make sure you know what you say you do. Company's are catching on to the fact that people are getting the certifications from Microsoft and whatnot but perhaps don't know how to actually do the work, just how to take and to pass the tests.

Make absolutely sure you want to throw away your years in engineering and any seniority you have and start again at the bottom of the ladder.
