Career Change Grant

Jason Said:

How much is the WIA grant for residents of Will County, IL?

We Answered:

There is a department in Will County government called "Workforce Services". While their section of the county website doesn't talk specifically about W.I.A., that's the department you would contact for information.

Their website is: http://www.jobs4people.org

Martin Said:

How do I go about getting a grant to fund a year at a Personal Training school so that I can change careers?

We Answered:

Ask the school if they have a financial aid office. If they do go to it and tell them your situation. If they do you will be filling out fafsa papers which will enter you into a database where they can figure out what aid you qualify for.

Kent Said:

Where can I find grant and scholarship information?

Kristin Said:

I want to change my profession to teacher. How do I do this online?

We Answered:

I don't know where you are located, but in California, you would have to earn a bachelor's degree before you can begin a teaching credential program. You can't substitute teach without a BA or BS either. Other states requirements are a little different, but they all require the BA degree. If you didn't get that degree from your trade school, start by trying to get that degree. If the trade school lost your transcripts, or more likely, never kept good records, then you will have to start over. While online schools don't carry the same status as brick and mortar universities, some universities offer many courses on-line. California State University East Bay (formerly Hayward) offers some degree options, though not all, online. It is a perfectly acceptable university as it is a part of the state university system. Chapman University in California and some of the State Universities offer teacher credentialing programs partially on-line. I know there is one that is exclusively online, but you will still need to do student teaching and meet with a professor. Look into the universities near you, you may be surprised that many of the courses are offered on-line and you could take the remainder as night courses. After you finish your BA or BS, you'll need to enroll in a credentialing program. These take one year in California. Financial aid, grants and loans are usually made available on a financial need basis, so you may qualify for assistance. Talk to an adviser and try to plan out your course work before you begin. It will save you time and money.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your career change!
