Career Change Opportunity
Alexander Said:
career change?We Answered:
Hello,(ANS) YES! that's a tough situation & I can really sympathize with how you feel. OK! there are several things to comment up on here:-
**Its a well recognized & understood fact that no matter how skilled a job you do after a time we reach a point in our careers when we get stale and so a change is needed. Nobody can do the same job for a life time and not get stale. So you don't have any reason to feel bad about wanting a change.
**In any career path change, you need to objectively step backwards from any feelings you have about how awful your present job is, try to step back emotionally from any sense of desperation (easier said than done, yes!) about what too do next. Try to take a calm cool, analytic approach to the choices you now face. Desperation upset & emotional distress wont help you make a good quality choice about any future job or career.
**People now change jobs & careers more than at any time in past history. This is due to the change in recruitment which in tern is due to globalization.
**At 37years old you still have at least another 30 plus years of working life remaining so making a good choice now could make all the difference to you in terms of quality of life. Take your time to make a good choice for yourself, don't rush this process of career change.
**Think in terms of identifying your present skills & work experience & including life experience. Next think in terms of careers or jobs that might draw against some of your current skills & knowledge but which are NOT within engineering directly but might involve a different role that requires some new skills or new knowledge (retraining perhaps). A job that combines some elements of engineering plus something new & different.
**I strongly suggest that what might help you is some careers counseling, this might help you identify what you do want or don't want and thus help you make good choices for your future. A careers counselor can also help you with making those practical changes too.
Hope thats useful?
Kind Regards & happy 2008 from Ivan

Does anyone know of a career change that I could make without returning to school? We Answered:
REAL ESTATE! Social work actually prepares you very well for a career selling real estate. You have flexibility, you can help people find what they are looking for, you can make as much money as you want (depending on your market).Human Resources would also be on this list.
Also, you don't indicate in what area of social work you are practicing. You might want to get into administration, policy work, advocacy, starting your own agency, etc.
Remember that social work is the most diverse profession out there and I would venture to guess that there are many options within the profession you have not considered. Post more of your resume and I'm sure I could be more specfic.

Possible opportunity for a career change. I really need some advice. Thanks.?We Answered:
Just be honest with him. It sounds more that he liked you in general and wants to help you get started down some other career path.Do a little research on his company if info is available. If you like what his company does, or you believe you can learn something there that will take you toward your goals then this is a GOLDEN opportunity.
Talk to him right away.

What do you think about this career change? We Answered:
A job as an OTA is a fantastic career move. School is short, pay is good, hours are flexible, and it's rewarding and always a new challenge. There's isn't a week that goes where I haven't gotten an email, letter, phone call, etc. to let me know about job opportunities. I suggest getting in contact with a hospital, nursing home, school, etc and do some job shadowing to get a good idea of the profession and what it entails. Hope this helps!
