Career Change Resume Cover Letter

Francisco Said:

Suggestions on how to improve my resume?

We Answered:

I have a few suggestions for you:

1) Move your "Education" section above "Work History" since it is more relevant to your desired job than the your work history.

2) Objective: To gain/obtain/secure FT/PT employment in a law office (or something like that- be specific and concise). You don't need to say you just got your paralegal certificate because it will be right below the objective on the resume.

3) Under "Work History," bullet points are often helpful and spice it up a bit. For example, "Responsibilities:" then bullet each responsibility.

4) In your "Software/System Skills" section, I don't know exactly what "Spreadsheet" is. Do you mean Microsoft Excel? Or Access?

If you are taking the resume around in person, you likely don't need a cover letter. However, I would be sure to write down the names of people you speak with and possibly send them a follow-up letter or a note thanking them for meeting you and accepting your resume.

Good luck!
