biology or history?? a levels for a career in law?

We Answered:

law doesnt really require any specific a levels i dont think although history might be more useful. having english means u got ur analysing skills and stuff covered so i guess history is not essential. do which ever one you enjoy most/are best at. i am just about to go back to school into 6th form tomorrow but i am interested in engineering/sciences, so dont trust me completely, i dont really know what i am talking about, but if you go on university website they tell you what subjects they prefer you to have for each course, it is usually undergraduate courses, then course requirements or something like that. i would go with biology but i hate history so dont take my advise, you could ask the careers department at ur school aswell, those people know!! hope i helped (a bit)

(alice L below me has a good point, cross referencing and giving examples in an arguement always makes your point better, so i think history would be able to help with this more than biology!!)

you could always do five AS levels and then drop one for a level and just do 4

Appropriate A-level choices for possible career law.?

We Answered:

I just graduated from law school (LLB Hons) and I took Economics, French, Biology and Psychology at A levels. As long as you have the grade requirements for the uni you wish to apply then you can take any subject.
Don't take law at A level, it's a complete joke.

thinking of changing my career - am I mad?

We Answered:

In the U.S., most police officers can retire with a full pension after serving some 20 years. And their average pay is around $45,000 to $62,000 per year. Becoming an attorney, on the other hand, takes more formal academic training and the way the current economy is going; not many attorneys are being hired by governmental agencies. My advice at this time, is to stick with your current occupation.

Good luck!

What am I going to do with my life?

We Answered:

It sounds like you should be a journalist or free lance writer. Why don't you try a couple of taster courses in the evening or distance learning (may fit round your schedule better) before you quit law altogether to see if you could make it work as a career without losing financial stability. If that doesn't work take some time out and travel. A little distance often helps find perspective. Also 25 is still very young and your priorities are likely to change many times over the years so do what makes you happy.

can i apply for custody?

We Answered:

First, does mom still want to raise the child? Because either she has to agree or she has to give up her rights.

You can try, but are you willing to raise that child to an adult if need be? Or are you trying for temporary custody?

You say you are in college, do you have a way to support the child independent of your partner? Because unmarried people don't look as good in the court's eyes unless you've been together a long time. At your age, I don't know if that's going to fly. (Exception if you are a gay couple, obviously can't be married and that has it's own issues.)

You would have to pass an inspection by child protective services, that includes your partner and whatever background he or she has.

If you really are willing to make that commitment, great. But you need to figure out what happens when dad gets out of jail. Will he want the child back. What about mom, when she is out of hiding?

Is this a lifelong thing or temporary?

Best A Levels to take if I want a Career in Law?

We Answered:

You should aim to take 4 traditional subjects; if you don't know what I mean by traditional I think Cambridge provides a list e.g. religious studies, english lit, history, latin, french, maths etc..

It is fine to take 3 traditional and one softer subject like sociology or drama, especially if you go to a lower performing state school.

Law is fine to take. It won't be a benefit to you for admissions per se but it might help you understand if you actually want to study law at university and might proffer some preparation.

Another word to the wise; barristers and top commercial law firms for solicitors require really high academic standards. You do anything you want to if you work hard enough but to let you know, it's even much more competitive than the people who say it's competitive think. If you want to get into a good university for law nowadays you need 3 As at A-level. Bear in mind 40% of law graduates actually go into law.
