Career Change To Nursing

Eileen Said:

Career change? Graphic design to nursing? Money issues?

We Answered:

Stay in graphic design and go to Nursing school at night. Or go back to school full time at a junior college that has a nursing program( smaller class sizes more hands on training). The nursing field is huge and has a wide range of specialty areas. I would say go for it your very young and have lots of life left don't waste it doing something you bored with. The pay is good you would be happy.

Glen Said:

how to change career to Nursing?

We Answered:

As stated in another answer the NHS pays your uni fees & you are entitled to a bursary for living expenses. If you choose to study in England, the bursary for the degree in nursing is means tested but NOT for the diploma. If you study in Wales all nursing & midwifery bursaries are NON means tested so you'd probably be financially better off studying in Wales.

I study in England & have a means tested bursary of £758 a month. I'm a lone parent though so I know I get more than other students without dependents. It really depends on your personal circumstances as to how much you get. This document is quite informative if you study in England. http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/Students/Docume… This one is for people who study in Wales http://www.wales.nhs.uk/sitesplus/docume…

With regards to starting your training well first you need to pick a branch. Adult, Child, Mental Health or Learning Disability. Applications are done via UCAS & you will also find info on there about entry requirements for uni. http://search.ucas.com/cgi-bin/hsrun/sea… You'll also find info on entry requirements here. http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/nursing_ent… I am a mature student without A-levels so I went to college for a year & did an Access course so I could do the degree. http://www.accesstohe.ac.uk/

I would also recommend the forum in this site. http://www.studentnurse.org.uk/ Lots of great advice.
