Career Change To Teaching Resume
Vera Said:
Requirements for Teaching Computer Classes in H.S.?We Answered:
I am a computer science teacher. We have a new teacher who did what you want to do. In her case she has a BS in Computer Science and worked in industry for five years. Now she is laid off. Not enough students want to enroll in computer science. The majority of states you can not teach computer science in any public school unless you have 1) at least Bachelor's degree, 2) a major in Computer Science, and 3) have teacher certification.
Teacher pay is low. When you figure in all the extra duties and work you have to take home the pay is near minimum wage. It is in the top 5 most stressful jobs up there with police work.
Why am I teaching? Because I am under contract to finish the year. I'm quiting. With the education and work experience you already have in IT I recommend you go back to school and get a Business degree to combine with your associates degree in Computers. That will make you very marketable. My son did that and now earns twice as much as I do and works less hours sometimes from home!
