Career Changing Advice

Wayne Said:

what is your advice on career changing? most of my friends are against it, thinking that it's a huge risk.

We Answered:

Go with your gut feel, it's usually right. Search your feelings and go with what feels right. Since there is NO job security anymore, no matter what jobs, the fact is companies absolute only cares about profits nowadays you need to understand job is just a job, annual salary means nothing because your job is not a contract.

Also, keep in mind most successful people took risks. The mindset of something is a huge risk is not healthy thinking. Do your homework on this new job, if feels right go with it. You will acquire new skills in new companies, the worst thing you can do is sit around same old job never learn new things and meet more people to broaden your horizons.

If you are considering a career change, chances are you are burned out, worn out, feel less energy, which all are signs of you peaked at your present job or career path.

Change is GOOD, change is healthy. Like I said before, since no jobs are guaranteed why not try something new? You might even like it.

My other advice is this, you should only consider doing the exact same job again in case of last resort for money purpose. If your resume shows you change company to do same job without promotion or meaningful money increase it's not a good thing. And if you should ever go back to old job you should be at a higher position than before, it other words show progression. The job game has changed in the last 10 years, keep in mind of lay offs, downsizing, corporate scandals, fraud, going out of business, etc. as examples, you should ONLY look after your own best interest. Loyalty to company means almost NOTHING nowadays! Changing jobs often get you much higher salary then your old job's 2-4% annual increase if you are lucky!

Good luck! Go with your gut feeling, don't forget to do your homework, if it's a good industry you can make more money then by all means go for your dream!
