Career Guidance Counselor
Steven Said:
I am looking for a career guidance counselor based in delhi.?We Answered:
The Internet is a wonderful invention. If you take your subject of your question and add to what you want to know about it, the search engine will do the rest. For example:My subject is Teaching. I want to know where to get certified.
The search engine result is as follows:
Teaching + state certification requirements
What you get is this: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=Teachin…
This will work for any subject category. Give it a try and good luck

Guidance Counselor career information?We Answered:
To be a GUIDANCE COUNSELOR you generally do need experience in classroom instruction and then often get a guidance credential on top of this (it is VERY rare to come directly out of an MA program and be able to be a guidance counselor. Now the last post is also wrong. With an MSW you could be a school social worker -
With an MA in psych you could be a school psychologist
These three positions are very different and have different responsibilities (though they all work together and often work with the same populations (often special education).
Guidance counselors are often most closely associated with providing "guidance" around career and school and occasionally psycho/social issues.
Social workers - are usually involved in psycho/social issues around school, families, substances, etc.
School psychologists are involved in testing (primarily around special eduction).

Are there any careers that are similar to a guidance counselor but on a college campus? We Answered:
They do have "Academic Advisors" that each student is assigned to, however as I understand it these are either Graduate students or Professors who are taking on other responsibilities.Every campus needs janitors. You could be like that guy in "Good Will Hunting" :-)

Considering a guidance counselor career after military career, need help, opinions, feedback, etc...We Answered:
I'm not sure about the military thing since I have no experience with it - but I can tell you about a guidance career.Guidance used to be a place where teachers who didn't want to teach anymore moved into - they would get a masters degree and wait for a spot to open up - voila, payraise and no more classes.
Does that make the best counselors? No way. So now, schools are also looking at people who have outside experience plus the master's degree. There are specific degrees for guidance counseling, and yes, you need certification. Check out collegesource.org to see what schools offer the degree.
If you are thinking of this as a career before even going to college, you might consider Psychology or Education for a bachelor's degree. Then again, I really encourage you to take advantage of all the courses your college has to offer so you can experience all types of industries. AND, if you are interested in Political Science, it will not at all hurt your chances of getting into guidance, because you have to get the masters anyway.
Hope this helps - best of luck to you!

Guidance Counselor Career Tracking..?We Answered:
No, guidance counselors love it when students know early on what they want to do. I've had friends go to counselors as early as 9th grade to discuss career plans and future classes. S(he) should be able to provide those things for you.
