Career Path Planning

Tyrone Said:

I dont know what career path to take?Financial Planning?

We Answered:

Do you like being a salesman? Financial Planners are almost all salespeople.

If you just want to be a guy in a suit doing analysis then you could become an accountant. Accountants make good money, but have roles that are much less sales oriented.

Check out the discussion section of the pages below for more info.

What are the options for a female in the IT industry? No career path?

We Answered:

I am in the same boat as you. Female, 25 years old, CS degree, was in computer science because my entire family are in that field. Anyways right now I work in the government doing admin but I am going to data analyst, business analyst, financial analyst where I extract data from database so u need to know SQL and I create financial reports. I am doing my accounting designation next month to reach that goal. I have interview for Decision Support Analyst position in a few hours. I use SAS and some database like Oracle and create financial report for hospital.

Rhonda Said:

Is this a right career path? I want to go to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on an ROTC and be a pilot.?

We Answered:

It is possible! The best thing to do here is to ask a doctor who does flight physicals to check your eye sight and general fitness against the standards. Also, start talking with the ROTC instructors at Embry-Riddle for what the requirements are for their program and the options available to you.
FYI: My father was an aviator in the Marines and is a private pilot now. He's always worn glasses for near-sightedness. In the Marines he was a navigator or co-pilot. That could be an option for you as well.
Big thing to keep in mind: aviation is highly competitive in the military. You have to be at the top of your class. Study hard! Keep asking questions! God bless your desire to serve!

Willie Said:

What career path could I follow with these A levels?

We Answered:

Assuming you'd be adding a degree to those A levels, you could do degrees in/go and work in the following....

Journalism (you'd need some relevant work experience to get on to an NCTJ accredited journalism degree)
Law
Political researcher (via politics degree)
Management (via a business degree)
Marketing (via a business or marketing degree)
Public Relations (IPR accredited degree in PR)
Counsellor/psychologist (via an appropriately accredited degree)

In fact a vast range of things. The only things you're not equipped for are areas such as medicine and engineering which require a different set of A levels and 'arty' subjects which again would need art and a portfolio

Deborah Said:

What major should i take in order to lead me into the Human Resource Management career path?

We Answered:

You should get a business degree with a major in Management. This is the closest you can get to an actual HR degree. There will probably be several HR related classes you can take as electives. Check the management major course list.

You shouldn't major in any of those majors you listed if you want to work HR. HR is business, those aren't business degrees.

Arlene Said:

If you where to plan a new career path and where choosing between two different types of corporations?

We Answered:

Umm Exxon Mobil of course!! It is the top 5 oil/energy producers in the world!! Talk about excellent benefits, job security. Haliburton is not too bad but I wouldn't want to be the contractor when I can work for the company itself. My dad worked for Chevron texaco for 30 years and he has great retirement and benefits. Can't go wrong working for big companies like that.

Discuss It!
