Career Changer with Resume Challenges! We Answered:
I agree about the last 10 years rule.I would list which county you subbed for and then maybe on another page list the schools that you subbed for/have the best relationship with and list the grades/classes you subbed for. **I'd put this on a separate sheet to save space on your main resume**
Luckily for you, you've subbed recently so you'll have some recent experiences in a classroom to talk about.
*I've sat through interviews with people who switched into teaching, but had no experience so they had no idea for any of the questions we asked them.

How would I change my resume when applying for a position with a company versus institution, I'm an MD/PhD.We Answered:
great degree! i'm accidentally in mba school and currently work for a generic pharma company. but i'm looking to get back to my biology roots and pursue a phd in cell bio.i think the key to being a successful job candidate is to use your resume, coverletter, and interview to show that you're self-directed and can take-on any project. after-all isn't that what getting a phd is all about - doing your own original work and doing it from start to finish.
good luck.

How can I express my career experience in my resume.?We Answered:
The most effective resumes do not just list your duties, they list your accomplishments.Make sure you mention ways that you found to save your company money or time, or increase sales and productivity.
Quantify your experience. See the following
Worked with vendors to save the company money (good)
vs.
Negotiated new contracts with vendors and suppliers resulting in a net savings of 25% while increasing the value of services provided. (great)
Always quantify the size of your staff
Directly managed the accounting staff (good)
vs.
Managing and directing a staff of 15 in their day to day activities of the department (great)
I hope this helped

Moving to Japan--advice on career change? We Answered:
If stepping up the career is the first priority for you or your husband, my answer is don't. For Japanese corporations, US is not a very much attractive location to build a new factory instead they are looking for far south of boarder or of course neighbors. It might be rather tough to get something to add in his resume as a state rep in Japan. But at least one thing I can focus on that is while he is working in state office, he can have quite a lot of opportunity to meet Japanese business executives and can expand "kone" relationship which will be a key to develop his career if he keeps working at something Japanese place.
Personally, I would like to say, if you love Japan and dream of living there, just go ahead.
One life, live it.

Where do I list volunteer work on a functunal resume? We Answered:
I have a lot of volunteer experience, so I have a special section for it on the first page of my resume. That being said, I'm only 18 and so I don't have a ton of work experience.
