Change Of Career Letter

Allan Said:

how would you explain in a cover letter your desire to change careers from one industry to another?

We Answered:

you can apply what you have learned already to scenerios that may occur in the entertainment industry. Basically present the skills and achievements you made so far that they show potential in the industry you would like switch to.

Denise Said:

How should I explain a career change on my resume?

We Answered:

a. write your app and change your resume to use words and duties used in the psych area, even change your job titles to something more modern and applicable. That can be a major overhaul. Instead of saying you were an inbound call centre memberships data entry, call yourself a member liaison who matched clients with the available solutions-based services of your organisation.

Cover letter - just address the selection criteria as you normally would, except using phrases they would use,. The first paragraph is where you explain why you are interested in the job - in your studies you focussed on this and that...and you would like to RETURN (not "change") the focus of your career to one which involves this or that...

Or try and get an admin job in a Social services office and get a foot in the door that way.

Rose Said:

do I really need a career change after I got fired?

We Answered:

First of all, you didn't quit, you were fired. Second, you will be glad of this down the road.

Don't judge your career based on one bad experience. Since I don't know what work you do, or what your training qualifies you for, I can only say generally that it would be foolish to base a major decision like this on the one group that you worked with. If the staff was as bad as the boss, it is probably a culture from higher up in the company. Unless the work you do is an extremely vulnerable one, say like stripper, you will find very good and very bad employers; most are somewhere in the middle.

Also, is there more than one way that your training and experience can be applied? I'll bet there is. Also, do some research on how to handle having been fired from you last job when applying for a new job. If you have any more specific questions, I have email available on my own page.
