Changing Career To Teaching

Erica Said:

Testing out changing my career to teaching?

We Answered:

You could always subsitute teach. Also school districts are always looking for people out in the community to help out. You would have to go to the main headquarters of the school district you are interested in and get an application for volunteering or subbing because you have to get a background check.

Ross Said:

web developer to teaching career change; your opinion please?

We Answered:

A career change is a big decision and I am sure you have given it enough thought before deciding to go in for this change. Don’t worry, there are lots of people out there doing the same and you have a lot of company. As you say you were a web developer for more than three years, you have enough experience in this field and when you apply for teaching positions recruiters will ask you why you want this sudden change. Be prepared with good answers. As you have field experience which most teachers don’t have you definitely have an advantage over other applicants as you will be able to guide your students beyond classroom material. This is an important aspect as most students these days have no one to help them bridge the gap between classroom learning and a work atmosphere. Now, teaching is a wonderful profession but before you plunge into it see if you have the drive to teach students, try and get a part time job before you resign your current job and see how you really like the change. Teaching can be a very rewarding profession!

I am thinking of a career change into teaching?

We Answered:

With you degree in the social sciences, you will be teacher history etc... but I am sure that you knew that.

Some states have alternate route programs for teachers which take a year, and the traditional way should also take two semesters with student teaching. It varies from state to state.

Visit your local college's educational department and talk to the department chair or one of the professors. Likewise, you can information from your local district.

How do I make a career change to teaching reading and literacy?

We Answered:

You would have to go to your university and speak with the designated individuals there so that they may guide you and give you options. I am currently working on my BS for reading and language arts and I am taking the long route...others that already have their BS (in business) simply take a certification test and if they pass it, they teach!...some are for that, others against it!...find out what your options are

Career change...teaching assistant?

We Answered:

I have been a teaching assistant for 6 years.I work in the foundation stage, i feel this is the most rewarding job. You can work your way up as a lot of TA's do. If you can get into a school as a volunteer you can then study for teaching assistant NVQ level 2 and 3, once you have completed these, you can then do your HLTA (higher level teaching assistant).I hope this helps you. Go for it! If it is really something you would like to do. Good luck.
