Complete Career Change
Gerald Said:
I've decided on a complete career change at the age of 33 and would like to become a radio producer.?We Answered:
Well, it takes a great deal of work. You have to learn and know programs such as Adobe Audition, Sound Forge, and other things such as how to mic guests, the different types of mics, etc. You might be able to volunteer at a college radio station and learn from someone there, but I had to go to college for four years to be a radio news anchor and producer. Broadcasting schools aren't worth the money, to tell you the truth.Velma Said:
Have you had a complete change of career? We Answered:
I'd done retail, customer service work from the age of 19 up until 2 years ago when I was 34. I hated it and wanted desperately to do something that allowed me to help people in a way that isn't so much about customer service, but humanitarian related. For the longest time I'd wanted to work for Heifer Project Internat'l, but was rejected twice so, when I saw an ad for a position at a local university working in the library, I applied for it and got it. I found that it fit my personality so much better and was much happier than at my previous job in banking. I'm an alumni of the university and I am currently back in school planning to pursue a Master's in either Library Science or Spanish. What a cool question!George Said:
Is 27 a decent age for a complete career change? We Answered:
You can change anytime. Employers mostly look for workers who are inexperienced so they can pay them less- no matter what age you are.My only worry is that you want to change but have no idea what you want to do. I'd stay within your current area of expertise until you have a good idea of what you want to do, or have taken some classes to become more qualified in other areas. A secretary with 5 years experience will probably make more than an entry-level job (of course exceptions are highly educated jobs- engineers, doctors, etc).
I'm 25 and know exactly what I want to do with my life, I have a 10-step plan drawn up, but I don't have nearly enough money saved up to do it yet. My plan is to be doing what I want by age 35, but until then plugging along at my current job, which pays well and I think I'm fairly good at. So if I have my career change mapped out for when I turn 35, then at 27 you have plenty of time.

What age would be too old to make a complete career change, go back to university and start over?We Answered:
Went back to finish the college degree (BSBA) at 48, started it at 17. Finished at 50 have not changed jobs, (well did get offer and go company after I started) but it was something I had to do. It is never to late.Nora Said:

Has anyone made a complete career change in middleage what were your experiences positive/negative?We Answered:
I went from 23 years of IT and a secure position earning $65,000 a year to creating a skin care product, starting a company to develop and distribute it, then launching a debit card company, and now I have a conglomerate with 9 subsidiaries in all kinds of industries.Just have total faith in yourself and remember, failure only happens if you stop trying.
