Decide Career Change

Carmen Said:

when someone decides to have a career change, do they usually Have to go back to uni?

We Answered:

Unless you are simply changing jobs, a career change requiring a degree would need a return to university. Where else are you going to get a degree (and no, those 3-day internet degrees from far-off <and unheard of> universities mean nothing to any employer). Your biggest problem would be overcoming the ageism within your second career base.

Where becoming a full-time student isn't an option, there is part-time, evening and distance learning courses from real, local, universities. Of course, this means you will be working at a job you no longer like until you complete your second degree - but at least you will still be earning money to live on.

Jobs with degrees typically pay a lot more than jobs without. You may decide to become part of the unskilled job market. These jobs don't require any tertiary qualifications, but conditions are harder, the hours are long and comparatively poorly paid.
