Deciding On A Career

Amy Said:

Strong young woman deciding career?

We Answered:

I hear you on all of this...only I'm 25 and barely starting to figure things out. It's hard but I know much more know then I did at 18.

Ok so here it goes:

Nursing is a good field, good pay, job security, but the min. to be an RN takes 3 years. So you might as well get a BSN in 4 years and have a full degree.

Massage Therapy could be good, but you have to reallly love people, not care that you will see all kinds of things on people that is less then attractive. Training is relatively short, pay can be decent, but compeition can be higher then you think.

What about hair stylist? Allows you to be fairly creative, makes decent money with real opp to own your own salon. Just a thought.

Paralegal or Legal Secretary good be a good choice. Schooling is 2 yrs or less. It's respected, good pay.

Web Design can be accomplished in 2 yrs or less, allowing you to be creative and expressive with great pay.

Culinary/baking could be fun and creative

Pet grooming if you like pets is a good choice. You can be VERY creative! I know from experience...and you can make some really great money...especially if you are good at poodles, and own your own shop one day...schooling is anywhere from 3-8 months, they also have competitive grooming. It's a very undervalued field!

Interior design

Hopefully these will inspire some ideas for you...good luck

need help in deciding career path in computers?

We Answered:

First - decide whether you are good at programming or not? And more importantly, whether you enjoy doing it?

If Yes, decide what language you would like to opt for(Java, .Net, C++ etc..)..

if No, then go ahead with Tester's role. But for that you need to have an eye for detail. You might like it more, coz I have seen guys flourish more as testers than programmers.

Plz dont go in for documentation..Its really time-consuming and Boring..

The key is whether you want to be the one making mistakes and fixing them; or the one cathing them and getting em fixed.. ;-)

All the best!

I am having trouble deciding on a career within media production, please could I get some pointers?

We Answered:

Well it looks like you are just having trouble focusing on a career path because you are not sure what specific jobs exist within media and entertainment. I would suggest that you try to determine what specific field interests you most: Film/TV, Music, Games, Live Events, etc. Numerous different careers exist within these fields that range from art creation to technical production. Make a list of the types of tasks you would enjoy doing, and then compare that list the with job descriptions of various jobs that seem interesting to you. You can find a huge list of entertainment and media careers at GetinMedia.com

I have a hard time deciding career choices?

We Answered:

You really have the whole world open to you! Education would be a good idea, because you can teach abroad all over the world, even in Africa. I have a friend who teaches in South America. But don't feel rushed ... keep in mind that most people don't know what they want to be when they grow up. And life is about living ... not working.

Chester Said:

What should i focus on when deciding career path/major?

We Answered:

If you focus only on money you will find yourself in a job that makes money but that you hate. And I can tell you right now, there's nothing worse then getting up every morning knowing you're going to hate the next 8-10 hours of your life. While money is nice, enjoyment is important too. Take another look at things you like and think about talking with your counselor at school. He/she may be able to help point you to jobs that you hadn't considered.
