Find Out Your Career
Martha Said:
What to do if you find out your career is not for you?We Answered:
I think you should stick it out. Always finish whatever you start and learn how you can apply this educaton to your future designer career. Focus on the laws that pertain to opening a business, patents, handling lawsuits, etc. This should help in the future.Lauren Said:
Army OCS... when do you find out your career path?We Answered:
I went OCS and I believe it took about 2 or 3 months to find out. I received a phone call and they informed me two things: 1. I was picked up as an Officer and 2. the Branch I was put in.FYI - don't spend too much time wondering which Branch they will put you in. Your college degree, current MOS, etc. really don't matter much. It all depends on the needs of the Army. I was a Russian Linguist in Military Intelligence with a Top Secret Clearance and was commissioned as a Field Artillery Officer.
On a good note, I had a hell of a lot more fun in Field Artillery than the poor MI Officers who were stuck in the TOC getting yelled at by the BN CDR.
Basically, don't worry. You get what you get and make the best of it. You are in the military, so I am sure you know the deal.

What are ways to find out your career path?We Answered:
Sorry but these days you don't find a career path. It finds you. Or more specifically society dictates what you will do based on economic need. There's very few jobs to choose from today. You'll be lucky to find any work at all. You end up doing whatever job employers happen to be hiring at the time. Your career will become whatever type work you are fortunate enough to find.
And because employers only hire based on your experience your next job will be doing the same work you did on your last job as will the next job after that and so on. These days your first job closely determines your career for the rest of your life. Since you say you already have some work experience your career path might already be decided by it.
Unless you've been working for many years already don't even think about starting your own business. Ninety percent of all businesses fail within the first year anyway. And the only business one can realistically hope to start would be some type of service related to the work you have already been doing for many years.
Sorry for the pessimism but these are extremely dismal times we're in. The old days of the American Dream where you could become whatever you wanted through hard work are long gone. Good luck.

How to find out your future career? We Answered:
Yea. Try monster.com or careerbuilder.com, both of these sites have career test that will give you an idea of what career path you should choose.Jay Said:
What is a good way to find out what your career should be?We Answered:
There is a book called "What color is your parachute?".It is an awesome help for people trying to find direction.
Most people I know are not doing anything associated with their college degree. They started out in one field and have moved on to something different, so don't stress too much about not having an answer to your life's work today.
Good luck on your search.

How to find out your future career? (which you love)? We Answered:
Sometimes its good to try something new for a challenge even though it may not necessarily be for very long. Experience in any organization together with networking really helps. Time often gives you an indication for future plans and goals.I wanted to be a vet but was a semi pro sportsperson, however I studied engineering then and got a small clerical job then went back and studied management and after sometime ended up as a senior manager in the financial markets so sometimes you go with the flow. But you have to enjoy where you are and look after your priorities and be independent. With age and occasional circumstance your goals will change but always try for the best you can, or if you're happy stay content for a while. As regards education it never stops you should always learn , do training or coaching in life.
