Finding A New Career
Valerie Said:
Now that I'm Disabled, how do I go about finding a new career that accomodates my limitations? We Answered:
If you are American, I can tell you most states have what they call theBureau of vocational rehabilitation services commission. They assign you a rehab counselor, who will do some assessments, talk to you about vocational goals, investigate continuing education (if appropriate) and in general make it easier for you to reintegrate into the working world. They work with other places, depending on your goals, that might get you job shadowing, job try outs, job coaching, technical interventions, job developing and so on and so forth.
If you are newly disabled don't try to go it alone! Counselors can help you re-learn your mind or body to help you achieve success.
The get over it, get on with it, just do it type of thinking usually only comes from people who have no clue what drastic changes can happen when suddenly you "aren't able to do what you once did".
I wish you luck, blessings and God speed in your recovery of self and employment

How can a 38 year old,worn out roustabout/25years-exp. find new career?We Answered:
Sounds like you're a Jack of All Trades. Get some business cards (free at vistaprint.com) and post them everywhere. (Be sure to list the things you do.) I had my own business for years. (I WAS the business.) My first client was at 10:00, then I had coffee, another client, then lunch and a nap. Took days off whenever I wanted. Being your own boss is the ONLY way to make money -- rather than working for somebody else. Find a need and fill it. If you do good work, are honest, and have reasonable rates, you will have more work than you can handle. Worked for me, and now I'm retired and seeing the world. NICE! (38? You're just a baby....)Cassandra Said:

What types of assistance in finding a new job/career are available for someone with severe back pain.?We Answered:
This isn't necessarily assitance but advice. For any position he applies for make sure the job application has an area where he can check off that he can do the duties of the job with or without accomodation. Don't disclose any limitations until he has been given the job. Explain the situation after the fact. The company would have to prove that accomodating his condition would cause undue hardship. Otherwise, we have local carriers here in CA that do day runs- SAIA; Matherson; and such. I only assume they are also servicing your area.Jorge Said:
Need help finding a new career? We Answered:
First it depends on what you like to do. You should think about going to school while you are still working as a corrections officer so that you actually have a job after school before quitting your current job.Glen Said:
