Career Change into Accountancy?

We Answered:

Sorry to say this, but it will be tough in your situation. Like all jobs, there is a lot of competition at the moment. Having said that, accountancy firms are always looking for good candidates.

You can train independently but it is easier to have a company supporting you and giving you practical experience.

A good start would be a track record of numeracy, GCSEs or A-levels in Maths or Economics would be useful.

I went into a graduate scheme.

How does a person decide whether to change careers or not .....any advice?

We Answered:

Spending more time with your family is priceless. Especially with the children being so young, once they are older they won't WANT to spend so much time with the family. So if you can change careers without putting the family under financial hardship that would be wise.
Maybe you need to take a year or so to lessen your expenses and in the meantime interview for jobs, take your time and find the perfect job and it may work out. Good Luck!

Help! How can I change my career under these circumstances?

We Answered:

Could you afford night classes? It would take much longer, but would not be the financial burden that going full-time would be.

Are there any other positions there that you could transfer into? How about changing to a different school? Sometimes, a change of boss and co-workers makes all the difference in how much we like our jobs.
