I go where the jobs seem to be or where I think the jobs will be, professionally-speaking. I did research on things like salary, working conditions, skills required, etc.

I recently watched a special episode of Dirty Jobs - "Dirty Truth" - in which host Mike Rowe gave some good advice about job-choice and passion: "Don't follow your passion; bring it with you!"

What that means is don't choose a job or career because of where your passions currently lay; choose a job that pays the bills and then become passionate about it.
