Mid Career Change Teaching

Amber Said:

a mid college dilemma- reconsidering secondary education minor- suggestions for alternative career?

We Answered:

How about looking into working as an assistant teacher or aid right now. Maybe with a professor. Ask around about other types of teaching jobs and see what advice they might have. Most people when they think of a teacher they think of a high school teacher or something. But it might mean teaching in London for IBM. Get creative. Even now it's not to early to start looking into different ideas. Again I'd ask the professors/teachers at the college/U you go to for some advice for things you can do.

Focus on what you really enjoy. Don't worry about a fall back career path. You'll have probably 100 skills under your belt by the time you are 25 anyway that could be used in most any industry. Remember skills and abilities get you 15% of advancement in a career. 85% is attitude, character and good work ethic.

Career change to become a trainer?

We Answered:

Choosing a career is one of the most important choices you can make in life. My son needed assistance with his career choices for the last month, so he went to the website in the box below, which has some sensible tips on career decision-making. It really happened for him because he now understands perfectly what he wants, and more importantly what he needs to do to get there!

Please help! Teachers-who would you recommend that I speak with when it comes to my credentials?

We Answered:

You were certified for 7-12. You need to go to the state licensing department, your MA is still good no biggie there. Make sure you meet the requirements that the state is asking for. (Some are really simple) then just fill out the application. They may ask you to take the test depending on the state.

I recommend contacting the state directly, they do have people to talk you through the process. If there is a school you are hoping to work for, contact them for their guidance. Not a counselor, just a person who can help you make sure you are qualified fully.

Good luck

Career change to teaching.?

We Answered:

You are thinking about it wrong.

On average most teachers are in their 40s. On average the people doing the hiring are at the end of their careers - in their 60s. You are a youngster!

being in music and the service industry - you probably feel like an oldtimer - but in education we value wisdom that comes with age. You have a unique set of skills that are truly hard to come by. Many school do not have a music program, because no one is available to teach it.

Go for it - you have the next couple of decades to pass on your knowledge.
