Midlife Career Changes

Steven Said:

I'm in the middle of a fairly unsuccessful midlife career change....?

Is the MBA the logical enhancement to your current credentials? Is it going to get you where you want to be>? Perhaps more important, why do you want to be in the 'business end of pharma"?

Doing an advanced degree in "midlife" can be invigorating, exiting, and rejuvenating. It can also be a LOT of hard work, a lot of expense and quite possibly not the missing piece to the puzzle.

It might make some sense to talk to people who are in the field that you hope to enter. It might also make some sense, as you investigate schools, to clearly express what your end goal is, and find out if the programs you're looking into will indeed lead to where you want to go.

I did my M. Div at age 40, and although my career has not gone where I expected, I wouldn't trade one minute.

Am considering a midlife career change - anyone else out there having done so with tips/advice?

We Answered:

I did, I hated my construction job and came across a great work from home business that was for real. I'm doing good and love it.

Midlife career change due to an accident... what would you do?

We Answered:

I'm going through the same thing right now. For the last 20 years I've made my living as a graphic designer. I was recently diagnosed with myoclonis and the medication prevents me from working the way I used to. So I thought hard about what to do next. I thought, my whole life I had a career that I enjoyed and it doesn't have to stop now. I thought of other passions in my life and the first thing that came to me was dogs. And now I am in school (home school) working to get a degree in dog training. I'm really excited about starting a new career.

So my advice is think of all the things you really love in life and figure out which ones who can utilize as a career.
