Injured at work, now I need new career? We Answered:
I am going through the same thing right now. For me, the only thing I have left to figure out now is, "What do I want to do?"I was going to school for nursing before I got injured in the US Army. You will find that if you have to struggle that much more in life, you want life to be worth the fight. Fist things first, DO NOT QUIT THE JOB YOU CURRENTLY HAVE!!!! If the injury is due to working for them, that is the worst thing you could do! You need to find out how much of the reasonability they are going to take for your injury. I know that sounds bad but when you are only able to work two weeks out of the month at your new job, you’ll wish you had looked into your former employer’s financial responsibility. Next sit down with your doctors AFTER the surgery (since that is coming up soon) and figure out what mobility you did get back. From there it will lead you to where I am at now. You’ll know what your limits are and you will know what you still have the ability to do. After all that, make a list of things you enjoy doing that won’t let your disability interfere with you achieving. There are message boards and support groups as well of other people just like you and me that can tell you what they did. Good luck to you!

What do I need to study to be a drug/ alcohol counselor? Im 25 and need a new career!?We Answered:
My best friend works for the alcohol & drug service (on the drugs side of things) She did a degree in social science (or studies as it it now called) when she left uni she worked in a bank and did volunteer work on evenings and weekends for Lifeline drug services in Manchester. It was the only way she could get her foot in the door. She was taken on full time when a vacancy came up. Her first position was needle exchange coordinator and she trained all the volunteers. She has worked for 2 other drug services since then and is now a manager at one of the alcohol and drug services.I would ring up your local alcohol and drug services and make some enquiries with them. You may have to start as a volunteer which I know won't pay the bills but its getting your foot in the door and they will train you.

I need a new career without going to school ; no sales. I love people but I don't want a caregiver role help?We Answered:
Door to door or street-based fundraising for a charity or environmental group might be a good solution for you. The jobs are generally easy to get, tend to be early evening hours, require a caring person who's comfortable with people and good with words.I have no idea how much they pay -- a bf worked for one of them over a decade ago, I think he got around $7/hour -- but it's experience and a place to start.
And way better than fast food or retail.
Good luck!

In need of new career, currently an out of work electrician. I need suggestions on where to start looking.?We Answered:
Monster , Yahoo Hotjobs, Careerbuilder are some of the largest job boards, where you can apply for jobs and upload your resume. Since Craigslist, allows free job postings, many smaller companies post their vacancies on this online classifieds website. You can also search for jobs from multiple websites using aggregators like SimplyHired and Indeed. Referrals are also becoming a increasingly popular way to get hired.More details and website links available at

I need a new career in which I can retrain/study in my spare time?We Answered:
If you are looking for part time work to give you more time, then being a substitute teacher is okay but income fluctuates. You are usually kept busy enough though and I am a bus aid for handicapped children.I only work about 5 hrs a day but have 4 hrs during the middle of the day and all evening to get things done.My son works at a check cashing place and his boss is fine with him doing homework when he's not busy.I think if you let the employer know what you need often times they will work with you.A higher paying part time job would be good, and something related to what you're studying. My daughter went to collage to be a nurse & worked part time as a nurses aid.
