New Career Opportunities

Robin Said:

What career opportunities are available for Computer Information Systems graduates? How do they pay?

We Answered:

It depends entirely on where you go in your career. I know CIS grads who will probably never make more than $30k and never leave the help desk. I also know a few CIS grads who make over $150k doing consulting work in security or networking.

What do you want to do? Where do you want to go? Where are your skills?

If you're just a generic grad with no skills, you won't go very far.

Ryan Said:

Career-wise, How do you walk the line between being focused and being open to new opportunities?

We Answered:

This is the time for the Mind-Heart conversation. The mind says that you should be wise, disciplined, focused, and hard-working. The heart tells you whether you're happy or if you're still looking for what you want to do in life.

If you listen to this "conversation," you'll know if you're happy in your career. In the meantime, when working, give it your all. In your quiet times, at night, assess your life in the career aspect. You'll know that you love your job if you look forward to the next day, the next month, etc.

Do opportunities arise that interest you? Ask yourself why it interests you and what makes it more interesting than what you're doing now. Decide whether it is truly better than what you're doing now or whether it's a passing thing, wondering about the "other side of the fence."

With or without these opportunities popping up, you need to know what your life goals are -- what you want to achieve by age 70 or so. These goals will guide your overall strategy: choosing an industry and how you want your career to look (corporate, entrepreneurial, franchise etc.). This is the importance of principles in life -- not necessarily moral principles, but even mere principles of running your life.

Good luck.

I am a high school English teacher looking for a new career in Chicago area. Any suggestions?

We Answered:

I do not livr in the USA but in the country that I live in
there are many (mostly) female teachers who feel like
you. I met quite a lot of them in a school for travel agents (we need a liecence to work as travel agents). This is a profession
where you meet lots of people, advise them about their holidays and it seems to be fun.

You did not specify how old you are but I suggest you go first of all and read some sites and make some phone calls:

http://www.coaching-life.co.uk/career/ch…
http://www.quintcareers.com/career_chang…

I am sure you will find some good advice in one of these sites.
I would also Google for Chicago job opportunities . here is what I found

Good luck.

Can you put a dollar amount on a new career opportunity?

We Answered:

That really does depend on your situation, are you unhappy where you are currently working? Is this new job opportunity a secure job and do you have room to grow? If you answer yes to those questions then yes it is worth the move and also think of it in this manner by living in an apartment for awhile it gives you the chance of knowing the area and of knowing what area will fit your lifestyle better, so even if I wasn't loosing money on the property I still would move into a apartment and see and look at all my options before I would rush into things later regret it.

Open to new career opportunities! serious advice only please! Want to make good money!?

We Answered:

There was a study done years ago. People had to think about what they wanted to do for a job. One lot were told they would choose a job they were passionate about and the other group picked something they thought would be good. Years later; the group that followed their passion became millionaires and only one person in the other group made any serious money.
What is your passion? And what do you really love?
You can find work that will pay your bills while you are pursuing your passion. When you are doing what you really passionate about. You can work long hours and not even feel like it is work. This is spirit light and task heavy. How many people do you know who are spirit heavy and task heavy?

Don't end up like these people. Don't listen to your friends who will become your negative advisers out of love not spite. Follow you passion and deep down you will know it is right for you.

This will be fun!
