What is the number one fear in career transitions? We Answered:
my number one fear is walking into the unknown - the boss, how he/she acts, how easy is it to request off work... just the internal environment of whatever new career i choose!Darryl Said:
How physically demanding is it to be a carpenter? We Answered:
My father is a general contractor, and I've spent many days on jobsites with him. From what I've seen, it's quite strenuous. Days are normally 7am-4-5pm minimum. All of the materials (beams, plywood sheeting, shingles, etc) have to be moved by hand from where they came off the truck to where they will be assembled, and you do it. There are days where you are doing more detailed work (finishwork, etc), but I'd say most days are fairly challenging physically. Of course, you get used to it. There's nothing quite like seeing something that you built with your own hands.Jeremy Said:

How often and why should any one person be looking at a change of career? We Answered:
There is nothing wrong with changing careers, espececially one you have been in for sixteen years. You will be suprised to find that most of the skills you learned may be transferrable into a job you now fund more interesting and challenging. For example, if you have been keeping the books at your current job, you have learned bookkeeping, accounting etc...Since you left school at 16, I assume you have not gone to college. Have you thought about getting a degree to expand your options at your current job? In fact, your current company may even pay for it. As you gain a college degree you can now look at jobs that you may have been shut out from now.
Don't worry about not knowing what you want it happens to everyone. I went to college, got a masters degree and still have no idea what I wanted. One day it was a doctor, one day it was a lawyer one day it was working in finance (which is what I do know).
My last advice, if you have some spare money is try a career counselor. However, do some research on good one who will give you tests to determine what you really like and help you get into that field.
Good luck!

Thinking of a career change? We Answered:
That's an interesting career change, to go from manufacturing to sales. Are you certain you want to do car sales? Now?What I mean is the car industry like the housing industry is going through the same financial crisis as the rest of the nation. Now is not the time, in my opinion, to leave a stable job for a sales job. People are tightening their belts and trying to keep their heads above water, not buying new cars as much as depending on the old reliable car to get them through the increased gas pricing. People are working on home budgets, trying to remain in the black and not the red which is easy to slip into.
The one thing that is interesting is that you are in a large city in NC. That might provide the foot traffic for an experienced car salesperson to make money but I'd be careful at this time if I were going in as a beginner.
Whatever you decide, good luck.
